10 Reasons Marijuana Should Be Legal In Texas

Representative David Simpson filed a proposal to the State of Texas on Monday night that would call for the complete legalization of marijuana; thus, ending all statutes of prohibition in Texas. He is backed by the Tea-Party Republicans and cites his religious beliefs as part of the reason he supports legalization, “God did not make a mistake when he made marijuana that the government needs to fix.” Texas has yet to introduce any laws curtailing the current legal status of marijuana but the conversation has begun.

Here are some reason that marijuana should be legal in Texas:

1) Colorado made $44 million in taxes by legalizing it; plus, Texas is 5 times the size of Colorado so imagine how much more money Texas would make! That money could go to pay more teachers or give teachers better pay, better roads, etc! It’s a cash cow waiting to be milked!

2) Zero deaths have been caused by marijuana in the history of time.

3) Cotton farmers lobbied against marijuana because hemp was a competing product way back when….and let’s just say, that’s plain silly. Hemp can be used for many different uses and is one of the most durable natural fibers known to man.

4) Free up space in prisons. There are loads of prisoners who are spending tax payers dollars and taking up major space in prisons across Texas because of marijuana themed crimes.

5) It’s fully legal in Washington D.C. – If it’s good enough for our politicians who run our country…it should be good enough for every day citizens who vote them into office!

6) It’s exponentially less dangerous than alcohol. Alcohol claims thousands of lives every day because of people driving drunk and it’s LEGAL. This makes no sense to me.

7) It’s completely natural. It grows naturally in the world and doesn’t incorporate dangerous chemicals like cigarettes.

8) You can place restrictions similar to alcohol and tobaccos on marijuana. They can even make it illegal to smoke and drive if they want. Further, they can make it illegal to do it in public, too.

9) Texans would vote for it. Sure, this is my opinion but I believe Texans would vote for the legalization if it was offered on the ballot.

10) It helps chronically ill patients. It has been proven to be effective pain relief and battles seizures for those who suffer from different diseases.

I can’t see any reason why it should be illegal any longer. This is the new era of prohibition and the same way alcohol’s prohibition was lifted in 1933…it’s time to lift the marijuana prohibition in Texas.
